Dental SEO: the complete guide for dental clinics
Dental SEO means getting your clinic found on Google by people who need a dentist. Done well, it brings patients every month without paying for every click. Done badly, it costs a year and brings nothing. Here is how to do it well.
What dental SEO is (and isn't)
SEO (search engine optimisation) is everything you do so that Google shows your clinic when someone searches for a treatment you offer: dentist near me, dental implants price, veneers in Istanbul. You don't pay Google for these visits. You earn them.
What SEO is not: a one-time setup, a trick, or a few keywords hidden on your home page. Google ranks clinics that are genuinely the most useful answer. SEO is the work of becoming that answer, and showing Google that you are.
Local SEO vs international SEO
Dental clinics need one of two kinds of SEO, sometimes both. They work differently.
| Local SEO | International SEO | |
|---|---|---|
| Patient | Lives nearby | Travels for treatment (dental tourism) |
| Typical search | dentist near me, dentist Bratislava | veneers Turkey price, dental implants abroad |
| Where you show up | Google Maps and the map pack | Normal search results, in the patient's language |
| What matters most | Google Business Profile, reviews, distance | Pages in the patient's language, trust, prices |
A clinic in Istanbul that wants patients from Germany needs international SEO: German pages that answer German patients' questions. Local SEO in Istanbul won't bring a single patient from Munich.
How Google decides who ranks
Google treats health as a "Your Money or Your Life" topic. A wrong answer about a medical treatment can hurt someone, so Google is stricter with dental sites than with most others. It looks at four things:
- Relevance. Does the page answer exactly what the person searched? One page about veneers beats one page about "all our services".
- Experience and expertise. Are there real dentists behind the content, with names, qualifications and photos?
- Trust. Reviews, real addresses, clear prices, before-and-after cases, a secure site.
- Authority. Do other sites mention and link to your clinic? Media articles, associations, partners.
7 steps to rank your clinic
1. Fix the technical basics
Before any content, the site has to work. Many dental sites fail at least one of these:
- Fast on mobile. Most patients search on their phone. If the page takes more than about 3 seconds, many leave.
- Secure (https) and one version of the site, not four (with and without www, http and https).
- Clean addresses like /veneers/, not /page?id=73.
- A sitemap submitted in Google Search Console, so Google finds every page.
- Structured data (Dentist or MedicalClinic schema) with your name, address, opening hours and reviews.
2. One page per treatment
This is the single biggest win for most clinics. Instead of one "Services" page, build one page for each treatment you want more of: veneers, implants, All-on-4, crowns, whitening. Each page answers the patient's real questions:
- What it is and who it's for
- A price range. In our experience, pages with prices get more enquiries than pages that only say "contact us".
- How many visits or days it takes
- Before-and-after cases from your own patients
- Guarantee and aftercare
- A short FAQ, and one clear next step: send a photo, book a video call
3. Google Business Profile and reviews
For local SEO this is the heart of it. Fill in every field, add real photos of the clinic and team, choose the right categories, and post updates. Then build a steady flow of reviews: ask every happy patient, with a direct link, right after the treatment. Reply to every review, good or bad.
Reviews matter for international patients too. They check your rating before they write to you. One of our clients, Dr Meši Dental Clinic, shows 5.0 stars from 46 Google reviews on its dental tourism page.
4. A page in every patient's language
If you want patients from Germany, you need German pages. From the UK, English pages. Not machine translation: native, natural text, with local details (flight times from their city, prices in euros or pounds). Tell Google which page is for which language with hreflang tags.
A dedicated site can work even better. For Dr Meši, a clinic in Serbia, we built dentalnyturizmus.sk, a Slovak site only for Slovak patients travelling to Serbia. It speaks their language, shows prices, the 5-hour drive from Bratislava and articles from Slovak media.
5. Answer the questions patients actually ask
Before they write to a clinic, patients google: How much do veneers cost in Turkey? Is it safe? How many days do I need? What if something goes wrong at home? Every one of these questions is a chance to be the clinic that answered it. Write honest, specific articles, signed by your dentist.
6. Get mentioned and linked
Links from other trusted sites are still one of Google's strongest signals. For dental clinics, the good ones come from:
- Local and national media (a patient story, a new technology, an interview)
- Dental associations and chambers
- Partners: labs, hotels, universities, conferences
- Directories that patients really use, with the same name, address and phone everywhere
Avoid buying links in bulk. It can get the whole site penalised.
7. Measure what matters
Rankings are nice. Enquiries pay the bills. Connect Google Search Console (what people search to find you) and Google Analytics with conversions for calls, forms and WhatsApp clicks. Then you can see which pages bring patients, not just visitors.
How long SEO takes
Honest answer: the first results usually show in 3 to 6 months, strong results in 6 to 12, depending on your city and competition. SEO is slow to start and cheap to keep. That is why most clinics combine it with Google Ads: ads bring patients from week one, SEO lowers the cost of every patient over time.
Dental SEO checklist
- Site loads fast on a phone, runs on https, one version only
- Sitemap submitted in Google Search Console
- Dentist / MedicalClinic structured data
- One page per treatment, each with a price range and FAQ
- Real before-and-after cases and named dentists
- Google Business Profile complete, with photos
- A system that asks every happy patient for a review
- Native pages for every patient language, linked with hreflang
- Articles that answer patients' real questions
- Mentions from media, associations and partners
- Calls, forms and WhatsApp tracked as conversions
The short version: be the most useful answer for one treatment, in one language, in one place. Then repeat.
